Guidelines for Hiring a Guide
Users of this site accept all responsibility.
(See disclaimer below)
To return to the page you were viewing, select the back
button on your browser.
To hire a guide, we suggest the
following steps:
1. Identify the guide you are interested in.
2. Email the guide and be sure to include:
- Information about who is traveling (group, independent
travelers, how many people)
- The location, dates
and times for which you require a guide
- The services you would
like the guide to perform. Be as specific as
possible.
- A request for a rate quote for the services requested.
You can email a guide by selecting the "contact" link
or email address on
their web page or listing.
IMPORTANT: Please do not expect guides to work for free
in advance of your trip. Guides are professionals. If you require a
guide's
assistance in advance of your trip -- such as
helping you with your itinerary, where to stay, or even
arranging things before you arrive, you should ask the
guide
for their hourly consulting rates and pay for
any assistance that they may provide.
3. The guide will email you back whether he or she
is available, his or her rates, and the answer to any
other questions. (If you do not hear back from the
guide within a few days, there may be a problem with the
guide's email. If this happens please email us to
info@wwguides.net
to report the problem)
4. If the guide you contacted is not available on
the date requested, contact
another guide listed under your destination or ask the
guide to recommend someone.
5. If the guide is available and you find the rates
and other information provided by the guide satisfactory, we suggest that you ask for
references or
even verify the guide's qualifications before hiring the
guide. You may also want to call the guide and
have a conversation first, which is especially helpful
if the guides native language is different than your
own, so that you can make sure you are comfortable with
their fluency. You should also ask the guide
how much of a deposit is required and their cancellation
policy.
IMPORTANT: Please do not
assume that because a guide lists on the site, that this
demonstrates his or her skills of professionalism. Guides
provide their own information and we do not, and cannot,
verify that it is accurate. In addition, the
type of training and qualifications required to be a
guide vary widely around the world. It is
always a good idea to ask a guide to provide references and
information about their training and experience. If you
have any problems with a guide listed at Worldwide Guides,
please tell us about it, as we can cancel a guide's membership
if they misrepresent themselves or act unprofessionally.
6. Once you are satisfied, you will usually
need to send a deposit to secure the guide's services.
In some cases, the guide may send you a contract to
sign. Be sure to find out what the guide's
cancellation/refund policy is. When the guide
receives the deposit he/she should send you a confirmation and receipt.
7. Prior to the trip, we suggest that you reconfirm.
Be sure to get the guide's phone number, so that you can call if you need to make any
last minute changes.
8. After your trip, please send us feedback about your experience.
